Just noticed the public meetings were held last night and tonight. We all gotta find out when the next meeting is.
This needs to be mentioned on saturday during the race. We, the racers, parents and LBS's, etc. all need to address this issue. Gotta drag them R/C track and motocross track guys along too. Strength in numbers. William Aila and/or better yet, the gov, needs to hear from us.

This adds to facility's that are already available, there is only one BMX track. We don't have a choice to go to another that may be crowded or need improvments. I would be willing to move if the State would fund it so that we may have a beter facility. But I doubt they would help so that we can have a million dollar track.

Looks like Govt. at it's best.Never thinking about the people. Only thinking about how much money the State can make off of this thing. Well Jason, Jeremy, It's sad to say but looks like the writing is on the wall. The State wants it's land back to make millions so your politicians can steal more money for there own personal gain.
I hope it doesn't happen though. It would be a sad day.Just when it was beginning to gain interest again. The track was shaping up and looking great.

Our State Championship finals are this weekend (Sept 24th). We just got an infusion of over $100,000 improvements to the track by volunteer group Actus Lend Lease. Concrete starting hill, concession stand, fencing, covered staging, landscaping, drainage system etc. all thanks to Actus Lend Lease. Our membership is on an upswing especially with the younger kids classes.
The Sand Island area where our track resides is shared by canoe clubs, surfers and fishermen. Each group respecting the other.
Now the Hawaii State Govt is threatening to shut down the track and limit access to the beach. They want to have a private builder come in and build a new marina. This will limit beach access and displace a lot of inner city kids that use the bmx track as an outlet. Basically, its the usual story of the rich developer squeezing out the little guy. In this case the "little guy" being the bmxers, surfers, canoe paddlers, and fishermen.
BMX racing is finally making a comeback in Hawaii. We have had the pleasure of being visited by top mainland riders such as Kim Hayashi, Mike Day, Greg Hill, Danny Calluag, Stephanie Barrigan, and Jordan Miranda. Since the Sandbox track opened some of the Hawaii riders have flown the Hawaiian flag with pride at Nationals in Bakersfield, Boulder, Arizona, Vegas, and Oklahoma.
There is more than one marina in Hawaii for the rich to dock their boats. But, there is only one BMX track in the whole state of Hawaii.
Let the kids have their place to race BMX!

If the state wants to take that away well as long as
they give Island BMX the Campbell site where BMX
started. Have them purchase a plot in campbell to be a
permanent home for BMX. And other Motocross and off road
sports. Or we can impeach the governor. Lets make a big scene.
Or say it's an archelogical signigicant site. I bet of you start
digging you will find ancient burial remains.
Because in the olden days, hawaiians use to live off
the land and reside there and bury family there. But lets not sweat it
because the state has no money to do anything right now.
