Hi guys, i was wondering if any of you know where i could ship a bike from hawaii to the mainland. I stay moving to vegas and want to know how i could ship my bike. If any of you could list the price and locations this would help out, or any advice. i rather not have to end up selling the bike. THanks in advance!

once packed in a shipping box USPS will be around 80-120ish dollars. Don't know about UPS. I had my mom ship a mountain bike for me from da mainland to Spain she broke it down and shipped the wheels separate it was still about the same.
depending what airlines you are using u might be able to take it as luggage. however i believe u still have to remove the handle bars and tires. they will charge by the weight of the bike.
I would suggest going to one of the shops and asking if you can get a box that the bikes are shipped in. You can dismantle the bike and tape up the box and ship it as luggage.

Like BMX Mommy wrote .You would have to take of the bars/neck and the front tire.Rear tire could stay on the frame.Oh also the pedals would have to come off. Off course if the box is real big then you probably could leave on the front tire.

That is probably your cheapest way to take your bike with you to the mainland.

Thats what we did before when we travelled .

Postal service and or UPS/FEDEX may be cheaper then taking on plane tho... i know when i came back a couple years ago it was gonna be cheaper to ship my demo8 there while visiting my pops , then it woulda been to take it on the plane ..

Airlines lately been charging from what i heard up twrds 150 bucks to send the bike with you as luggage, as its going to be oversized and the fact its a bike and they know the liabilty and costs of alot of them.. Most of the triathletes in the NC area take them to bare frames and fit them in luggage, and dont even mention they are bikes to avoid the charge.

hey if you are Military..... see if they charge on Mac flight. or just box everything and ship as parts. putting in suitcase, they will still search baggage or xray. they may still charge you. pack in separate boxes and ship UPS OR FEDEX.
Go to BIKEFACTORY and get a BOB stroller box. We'lll give you one. You'll have to strip your BMX down to frame w/ cranks (sometimes seat & post can stay), wheels, bars, fork, and pedals. It takes a little bit longer to put your bike back together but I think saving the extra money is worth it. Make sure whoever is picking you up has enough room to carry a stroller box. You can put other stuff in it but keep it under 50lbs. I've never been hassled because of x-rays or nothing.
^super good idea!

I've always just packed bikes in a bike box from the lbs.

Shipped usps, fedex, and ups. In my experience [because on other forum threads I've been on the results vary] this is who I think handles your bike from best to worst:

1) Fedex
- The most expensive, but I've never received a box with even a ding or cut in it
2) USPS
- Was the cheapest, but not sure about now. They've restructured oversize box prices over the last 3-4 years. Box will usually arrive looking like someone was playing soccer with it, but stuff inside is usually not damaged.
3) UPS
- I know some high up people at UPS and cannot understand why my boxes constantly look like they have been dropped off the top of a 12 story building. I even had someone I knew come to do the claim write-up on something that was "insured." They refused to pay the claim because the item was not packed sufficiently. However they have a clause that the receiving operator should not accept an unacceptably packed parcel. Doh.

If it was a really nice, important bike, I'd strip it and ship it in pieces. Maybe only pack the frame, fork, and bars in my suit case. You could carry on your wheelset in a bag, etc. But DONT! try to carry on your cranks. Several years ago I was refused at security because the inspector felt that my bicycle crank was a blunt force object that I could use to hit someone over the head with. I told him I could do much more damage with the corner of my laptop to his head. Actually I didn't say that, but I was thinking it.

Good luck on your trip!

I worked at UPS for a while as an offloader.....trust me things get tossed really hard......especially if it says fragile on it. So pack it good no matter what carrier you use.
Was just on vintagebmx and saw this banner ad. Not that I would use them but there is some pretty good information here:
