By that I mean, not WHERE your favorite jump was, but what YOU did in the air that was your favorite?
I liked to do Leary's or just Tabletops..."Tables" ruled supreme back then, as did the full x-up, or "Helicopter" Tabletop...
How about you guys?
Sounds like the perfect thread for perfectnut!

Hey welcome Slingshot..
Personally, I loved the tabletop, both sides left or right, tucked in or spreadeagled.. great fun with the challenge of landing it with both feet still on the pedals..

How about yourself, have any cool pics? I never could do a full Leary, but love that style. We called it a "Redline", though the kickout required opposite foot to rip it fully clicked.
Hope to see you again on the boards. Try checking out vintagebmx too, its a good source of old-school bmx stuff

Thanks for the welcome perfectnut! Never could Table tucked, and I think I have a totally blurry pic of me doing a spread table at that park near the H1...I forgot the name of that place. It was next to a basketball court I think. Shoot, I had checker board Vans, Haro plate, Uni seat on my Haro Freestyler...70's haircut.

I'll try looking for it.
Leary I could only kick out all the way sometimes...One of my friends, this guy Derrick Awakuni could table tucked, and had the rear wheel higher that the front...wasn't there a name for this type of Tabletop?
God bless!
My favorite would be the Shimano....Since it's the first trick I learned at Triangles. I even ruined a perfect set of First Generation Redline VBars by cutting them down to make it easier. Since we are on the subject we have to credit Factory Shimano rider John George for bringing it to the islands. Most of us locals have never even seen a helicopter......before John George. When he came here to race at one of the South Pacific Nationals at Campbell Industrial he would fly the tabletop jump and helicopter. We of course had never seen it before and since he wore a Shimano Jersey all us local kids called it the "Shimano" when we tried to copy it in days and months to follow.
I am sure most of us don't remember who won the race but we all remember John George! Heres a pic of that Epic day the man himself John George at Capbell Industrial Raceway:

Thanks man...although there was NO way to get air like perfectnut on the jump we were at. Ya know which one I am talking about? It's friggin' bugging me...
Race pics...um...doubt it. I didn't race too much, it got "boring". My last few races were with Barry and Walter guys, although not in their class.
Started at Castle Park, checked out a few at Campbell, then was good enough at Keehi Lagoon to trophy each race in the top three against the Experts. I never liked that...top three in Novice go against top three in Expert. Man them Expert dudes really knew how to use their elbows!!! When I started racing again, my plate was 275. After a FEW races, I dropped to 135...something like that. We all would jump in Barry's dad's van, pounding Iron Maiden to go to the races. However...
All Walter guys got bored...and just wanted to freestyle. So ended my brief BMX career...
I'll try looking though...yikes, we're talking 110 camera pics! LOL!!!
Slingshot,
I know what you mean. I too eventually got bored with racing. It wasn't that I didn't like riding. I always did. But, when the guys I grew up stopped racing....guys like...Rockne Tang, Buddy Ikeda, Eric Phillipart etc. It wasn't fun anymore. Sure it was easier to win....but it wasn't the same. So I stopped racing. I hope you can find more pics....jumping racing freestyle dosen't matter. Post them! It's always cool to see an old bmx hawaii shot.

Great man, you're like an old-school guy too! Castle Park, yay..
I didn't like BMX racing nearly as much as jumping, I'd dream about flying high and flat almost every day/night.
I need to find more pics to post up from "back then".. if you've got any more, postem up !!
